Wellington's five-for strengthens Hampshire's top-spot push

In the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, Amanda-Jade Wellington wrapped Yorkshire in a web for her third five-wicket haul of her List A career.

The legspinner from Australia also scored five runs in the Vitality Blast matchup against Essex, making her best 50-over score of the season. Wellington tore through the opponents to score 5 for 25.

Yorkshire only managed 166 despite Jess Jonassen scoring a classy 64, and Naomi Dattani took three after recovering from an illness. Georgia Adams made light work of the chase by scoring a half-century to go along with her century in the previous match, which Hampshire won by seven wickets.

Despite having secured a spot in the knockout rounds, Hampshire remained hopeful of making the final, which will be held on September 19 at the Utilita Bowl.

Yorkshire won the toss and chose to bat first on the pitch that had been used in the Rothesay County Championship match earlier this week, even though they are already out of the running for qualification.

Since the wicket had turned a lot for that match, it came as no surprise that Wellington won. However, Dattani began as the star. Her first ball got a light edge off Alice Clarke and an edge off Lauren Winfield-Hill to take the crucial wicket.

Jonassen skipped along unconcerned by Dattani's accuracy and Wellington's entry into the attack, making sure there wasn't an immediate collapse.

With an average of almost 45, the veteran Australian player is the competition's third highest scorer. However, as has frequently occurred this season, nobody took advantage of her fifth fifty-plus score; Wellington took control, and Yorkshire lost seven wickets for 31 runs.

Wellington started her dominance by bowling Sterre Kalis from the inside with an inside edge. After that, she bowled the perfect legspin clinic with flight and deception. Abi Norgrove bowled Jonassen with a stunning square leg catch, and Dattani returned to bowl Ami Campbell.

Before claiming Claudie Cooper with two leading edges, Wellington transformed into a swallow to take a flying and swooping catch-and-bowled.

When Sarah Glenn turned to short fine, Adams completed the innings, setting Hampshire's 167-run victory over Yorkshire.

With beautifully timed boundaries, Ella McCaughan set the tone for the straightforward chase, but Adams carried out the bulk of the work.

The Hampshire skipper has performed admirably since winning the Hundred with Trent Rockets and serving as match hero in the final. She continued her winning streak with an effortless 61 after scoring centuries against Durham and Surrey.

Even though Holly Garton bowled Adams, Jonassen caught McCaughan and Norgrove, and it was a comfortable victory for the home team. Cesca Sweet showed off her impressive abilities with her third fifty of the season.

Winfield-Hill's serious head injury while wicketkeeping was Yorkshire's biggest setback of the day. On a stretcher, she had to leave the ground.
