Webster, Meredith star as Tasmania crush Western Australia

Riley Meredith, a fast bowler, and Beau Webster, an Australia all-rounder, defeated Western Australia in Perth to give Tasmania a comfortable One-Day Cup victory at the WACA Ground.

Meredith won the match with a superb 4 for 11 from eight overs and was named player of the match. Webster took 3 for 31 as WA were blown out for 115 from 30.2 overs by visiting captain Jordan Silk.

There were only four batters who scored 20 or more runs.

In response, Tasmania smashed 117 for 1 in just 16.2 overs to win.

By combining for an opening stand of 76 from 9.1 overs, openers Mitchell Owen (43) and Caleb Jewell (41 not out) ensured there would be no nervous moments chasing the modest target.

After that, Webster continued his impressive work with the ball by contributing an unbeaten 26 runs off the same number of deliveries as Tasmania defeated the home team.

When Meredith caught Sam Fanning (3) behind and feathered an edge outside off stump, WA's openers had only scored seven runs in 2.3 over.

Webster bowled at a medium pace and removed Joel Curtis (8) by finding an edge behind down the leg side. This made it 35 for 2 and led to a collapse of 4 for 37.

Cameron Bancroft struggled to 19 from 35 balls before edging a catch to Webster at second slip off quick Will Prestwidge (2-19), who then caught Will Malajczuk behind for a duck. Webster reached 19 from 219 balls.

After that, WA lost their final five wickets for just 24 runs, allowing Tasmania's top order to make batting look easy in comparison to the awful innings played by the home team.
