Voges Taps Hussey and IPL Knowledge Ahead of Scorchers' Chennai Clash

Perth Scorchers head coach Adam Voges is tapping into the IPL experience of Australian legend Michael Hussey and key squad members as the team prepares to open its Big Bash League campaign against the Melbourne Renegades at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai.

Historic BBL Opener: The Scorchers are participating in a historic BBL season opener in Chennai, marking their first return to India as a franchise since Voges captained the side during the 2014 Champions League T20.  

Consulting "Mr. Cricket": To combat Chepauk's spin-friendly, unpredictable conditions, Voges is leaning on Michael Hussey, who spent nearly 18 years with Chennai Super Kings as both a player and batting coach.  

Leveraging Squad IPL Experience: Voges is also drawing on the local experience of key Scorchers stars with IPL credentials—including Mitchell Marsh, Cooper Connolly, Ashton Turner, and Jhye Richardson—to adapt to subcontinental pitches.  

Synergies with CSK: Highlighting the parallels between the Perth Scorchers and Chennai Super Kings, Voges noted that both franchises share a dominant home record and a culture built on winning domestic silverware.

"For me, it's just continuing to learn as much as I can about the game in different places, about different cultures, different environments, and hopefully continue to create those and build those experiences into my own coaching. And hopefully be a better coach for it."
