Tim David, Rajat Patidar Lead RCB to Dominant Victory
RCB's explosive batting display, led by Tim David's 70 runs off 25 balls and Rajat Patidar's 48 runs off 19 balls, helped them post a massive 250/3 against CSK. CSK's bowlers struggled to contain the RCB batters, who smashed 19 sixes and 14 fours. In response, CSK's batting lineup crumbled, managing just 207/10, handing RCB a 43-run victory.
The Chinnaswamy surface was tacky in the early exchanges, according to Devdutt Padikkal who scored 50 off 29 balls, and the outfield was unusually slow, with quite a few strong hits plugging in the outfield. While the surface settled later in the innings, the outfield remained slow. Tim David and Rajat Patidar didn't feel the need to hit the ball into the outfield, especially when they had the power to keep launching the ball into the night sky.
RCB's innings got off to a slow start, with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli struggling to score against Matt Henry and Khaleel Ahmed. It took them 20 balls to hit the first boundary. Anshul Kamboj broke the partnership, getting Kohli caught by Shivam Dube at long-on for 28 off 18 balls. This was a big break for CSK, especially since Dube had dropped Kohli earlier on 7 at mid-on off Khaleel Ahmed.
With the ball not coming onto the bat, Salt laboured to 15 off 16 balls. A brace of swatted fours off Kamboj then freed him up, but Shivam Dube, bowling for the first time in this season, struck with his third ball to stop Salt on 46 off 30 balls with a cutter that was banged into the pitch.
Padikkal, who had dashed out the blocks on the opening day of the season, wasn't allowed to do so on this track. He started slowly as well - he was on 17 off 16 balls at one point - but then put then put the pedal to the floor and converted it into a 28-ball half-century. It was his second successive fifty, but it certainly wasn't the story of the day.
Tim David and Rajat Patidar's explosive partnership changed the game for RCB. David smashed an unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls, taking the attack to CSK's bowlers, especially Overton, who conceded 30 runs in the 19th over. David's power-hitting had the Chinnaswamy Stadium in a frenzy, with even Virat Kohli getting up to applaud.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar just achieved a massive milestone, taking his 200th wicket in the IPL, making him the first fast bowler to reach this feat! He got Ayush Mhatre caught at mid-off for 1, and it's a testament to his incredible career. Yuzvendra Chahal leads the IPL wicket charts with 224 wickets, and Bhuvneshwar is now second among pace bowlers.
Jacob Duffy's brilliant bowling helped RCB restrict CSK to 207 runs in 19.4 overs. He got crucial wickets of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad, caught in the slips. CSK's innings was marked by a strong start from Sarfaraz Khan, who scored 50 off 24 balls, but Krunal Pandya's stumping of Sarfaraz turned the tide. Prashant Veer also showed some spark, scoring 43 off 29 balls.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru 250 for 3 (David 70*, Paddikal 50, Patidar 48*, Dube 1-30) beat Chennai Super Kings 207 (Sarfaraz 50, Veer 43, Bhuvneshwar 3-41, Abhinandan 2-30) by 43 runs
