Test Batting Rankings: Brook Moves to No. 1, Root Drops to 2nd

Harry Brook has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, overtaking teammate Joe Root. New top 3: 1. Brook 869 points, 2. Travis Head 853, 3. Root 851.

Among the bowlers, Gus Atkinson entered the top 10 following his impressive performance against New Zealand at Lord's. In ODIs, Abrar Ahmed moved to No. 2 and Shaheen Afridi made it to the top 10 after Pakistan's success against Australia.

Brook made 56 to help England win a low-scoring first Test against New Zealand, while Root made 1 and 8. Atkinson took seven wickets, including a five-for in the second innings, to move up seven spots to No. 10. While he scored 18 runs across the Test, it was enough to move up from No. 8 to 6 in the Test allrounders' rankings.

Lord’s Test vs New Zealand: Brook scored 56 in the first innings – one of only two 50+ scores in a bowler-dominated match England won by 115 runs. Root struggled: Scores of 1 and 8 across both innings caused him to drop 2 places from 1st to 3rd.Brook had previously been No. 1 in December 2024 and now regains it.

Abrar picked up six wickets in the three-match ODI series against Australia and gained two spots to move to second in the ODI bowlers' kist. Afridi took seven wickets in three games and rose four places to No. 9.

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana made a big leap of 23 spots after his four-wicket haul in the series opener against Australia in Mirpur to move to No. 24.

Bottom line: Brook’s gritty 56 at Lord’s pushed him back to the top of the Test batting rankings, while Root’s twin single-digit scores saw him slip to 3rd behind Travis Head.
