Tanzid announces himself with maiden ton as Bangladesh pile on pressure

Bangladesh continued to assert control over Australia on Day 2 of the 1st Test in Darwin, reaching 286 for 3 at tea to build an 88-run lead after bowling the hosts out for 198 on Day 1.

Tanzid's Landmark Maiden Ton: Tanzid Hasan anchored Bangladesh's innings with a brilliant 101 off 197 balls (8 fours, 1 six), becoming only the second Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century against Australia.

Second-Wicket Foundation: Tanzid teamed up with Mominul Haque (49) for a 102-run partnership. During his stay, Mominul surpassed Tamim Iqbal to become Bangladesh's second-highest run-scorer in Test history.

Shanto Leads from the Front: Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto reached an unbeaten 79, combining with Tanzid for a 93-run stand for the third wicket before adding an unbroken 55-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim (26*). Australian Bowlers Stymied: Australia's attack struggled to break through on a sunny afternoon, with Josh Hazlewood picking up Mominul and Nathan Lyon dismissing Tanzid shortly after his century, caught by Mitchell Starc at long-off.

Bangladesh's early-morning discipline with the bat set them up when the sun fully came out in Darwin. Tanzid and Mominul continued to leave more than they touched as the Australia fast bowlers tempted and teased them outside the off stump. Mominul's flick in the second over got Bangladesh their first boundary of the day, but they struck just two more in the next ten overs.

Tanzid surprised everyone with a six down the ground off Webster, which completed the century stand for the second wicket. Mominul, however, fell in the next over when he edged Josh Hazlewood when just one short of a well-deserved half-century. During the innings, Mominul also got past Tamim Iqbal to become Bangladesh's second-highest run-getter in Tests.
