Surrey re-sign Sean Abbott for fourth stint
For the upcoming county season, Surrey have signed Australian all-rounder Sean Abbott, who will play his fourth season at the Kia Oval.
Abbott represented the club in 2021, 2023, and 2024, winning the County Championship in each of those years. He returns to Surrey after Nottinghamshire won the title last season and they missed out on four straight.
Before his contract expires in July, he will be available for the Vitality Blast and the first eight rounds of the County Championship, beginning with the match against Warwickshire on Easter weekend (April 3). Abbott's return gives an experienced bowling attack some needed and familiar cutting edge after Kemar Roach moved to Durham after five seasons at Surrey.
The 34-year-old has taken 79 wickets in both ODI and T20I matches for Australia, giving him 58 white ball caps. He currently has 614 runs and 49 first-class dismissals for Surrey at a rate of 25.73.
His Blast record is equally handy, with 25 wickets and 221 runs, the latter bolstered by a remarkable record-equalling 34-ball century against Kent Spitfires in 2023. Abbott is also the leading wicket-taker in the Australian Big Bash League with 186.
In a statement issued by Surrey, Abbott said, "The opportunity to rejoin Surrey for the 2026 season was a no brainer for me." "The club has evolved into a genuine second home. I'm looking forward to connecting with the group once more, and the dressing room environment is one of the best I've ever seen in my career.
"I can't wait to once more wear the Three Feathers and help push the group for more success this summer at the Kia Oval."
Alec Stewart, the director of men's cricket, said, "We look forward to Sean rejoining us back at the Kia Oval." His abilities as a cricketer speak for themselves, and I am confident that he will immediately return to the team.
