Sulakshan Kulkarni named Oman Cricket head coach

Sulakshan Kulkarni, a former domestic coach and wicketkeeper for Mumbai, has assumed command of the Oman coaching staff. Kulkarni succeeds Duleep Mendis, who held the position for 14 years and served as his final assignment for the T20 World Cup that is currently underway. Mendis is now in charge of Oman Cricket as Chief Development Officer. Under Mendis, Oman made four T20 World Cup appearances. In the current World Cup, they were in Group B with Zimbabwe, Australia, Sri Lanka, and Ireland, but they didn't win a game. Since July of last year, Kulkarni had served as Mendis's deputy. Kulkarni, 59, brings a wealth of domestic Indian coaching experience with him. He has coached teams in Mumbai, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu. From 1985-86 to 2001-02, Kulkarni appeared in 13 List A games and 65 first-class matches. He had 3332 first-class runs, an average of 38.29, with six hundreds and 13 half-centuries. He only gave up 130 runs in 10 innings at 21.66 in one-dayers. He played domestic cricket for Railways, Assam, and Vidarbha in addition to Mumbai. The ICC CWC League 2 matches that Oman, UAE, and Nepal were scheduled to play in Nepal next week have been postponed due to air strikes in West Asia that have resulted in the cancellation of thousands of flights.
