Sri Lanka Stun Australia with Nissanka's Century, Secure Super Eights Spot

Pathum Nissanka's explosive century led Sri Lanka to an 8-wicket win over Australia, securing their spot in the T20 World Cup Super Eights. Nissanka's unbeaten 100 off 52 balls, featuring 10 fours and 5 sixes, powered Sri Lanka to chase down Australia's 182-run target with 12 balls to spare. Kusal Mendis contributed 51 off 38 balls, and Pavan Rathnayake added 28 off 15 balls. Australia, who had a strong start with 104/0 in 8.2 overs, collapsed to 181 all out due to Sri Lanka's bowling, with Dushan Hemantha taking 3/37 and Dushmantha Chameera picking 2 wickets. This win marks Sri Lanka's third consecutive victory in the tournament, while Australia faces an uphill battle to qualify for the Super Eights. Matheesha Pathirana's injury led to a strong performance from Sri Lanka's spinners, who picked up six wickets, complemented by Dushmantha Chameera's excellent closing. Australia's Adam Zampa, considered one of the best T20 spinners, went wicketless and conceded 41 runs in four overs. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis had a solid opening partnership, scoring 61 runs in the powerplay, with Nissanka dominating the scoring with 38 off 20 balls. Australia's bowlers struggled to contain them, especially with slower balls, and the pair took advantage of the pace on the ball. Mendis continued to shine, hitting four fours in two overs of spin and reaching his half-century. However, Stoinis broke the partnership, getting Mendis out in the 13th over, leaving Sri Lanka needing 77 off 47. In the next over, he took apart Stoinis with a back-foot punch down the ground for four and a dismissive pull for a six that sent the already dancing crowd into ruptures. Nissanka was 72 off 41 when Sri Lanka needed 41 off the last five, but he decided to have himself a party after Rathanayake survived two close calls against Maxwell. He pumped Ellis, who didn't bowl a lot of slower balls, for two sixes before ending Zampa's horror night with 15 off the 18th over. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head's explosive opening partnership put Australia in a strong position against Sri Lanka, with both scoring fifties and adding 104 runs for the first wicket. Marsh, who returned to the XI, showed his finesse with five consecutive fours, while Head, who hadn't scored a T20 fifty since the last IPL, matched him shot for shot. However, Sri Lanka's spinners, led by Dushan Hemantha, made a strong comeback, taking wickets and restricting Australia to 181. Sri Lanka 184 for 2 (Nissanka 100*, Kusal Mendis 51*) beat Australia 181 (Head 56, Marsh 54, Hemantha 3-37, Chameera 2-36) by eight wickets
