Shubman Gill hit on elbow during nets ahead of WI ODIs

Before the first one-day international against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram, Shubman Gill was batting in the nets when he was hit in the right elbow. He did not pick up the bat again later.

The India ODI captain was hit by a delivery from Mohammed Siraj while batting two days before the first one-dayer, and he left the nets clutching his right elbow in visible pain.

Gill immediately left the nets with the physio as Siraj raced to check on him. For the next forty-five minutes, the captain of India perched himself atop one of the cooler boxes by the nets. Before putting on an ice pack, the physical therapist looked at how flexible his shoulder was. After 20 minutes of wearing the ice pack, the physical therapist arrived and plastered his elbow.

He sat and rested for a while with Siraj as company, and Rohit Sharma briefly checked on him afterwards. Later, Virat Kohli and Gurnoor Brar sat by his side even as the ice pack stayed put for another 20 minutes. Later, he finally got up, grinning at Yashasvi Jaiswal as he imitated a shot with his left elbow and straight right arm.

Gill received the icepack once more from the physiotherapist more than an hour after the blow, probably as a precaution, and returned to his seat as the rest of the practice session continued.

A second evaluation was performed by the physiotherapist nearly an hour and a half after the hit. Gill was able to pack his own protective gear even though he did not return to bat. With his pads in one hand and his bat in the other, he messed around with his bat almost until the end of the nets session.
