Indian selectors face an unusual logistical and selection dilemma as the men's Asian Games campaign in Japan overlaps directly with India's home ODI series against the West Indies.

Overlapping Dates: India's 3-match home ODI series against the West Indies runs from September 27 to October 3, 2026. Meanwhile, India’s Asian Games knockout campaign in Japan spans September 28 (Quarter-final), October 1 (Semi-final), and October 3 (Medal matches).

Potential Simultaneous Matches: If India advance to the Asian Games medal matches on October 3, two different Indian men's teams will play in two countries on the same day—one in New Chandigarh for the 3rd ODI against West Indies and another in Japan for a medal.

The ODI series would have been an ideal opportunity to bring back Hardik Pandya, who has featured in an international match since March. But the allrounder is a conditional pick for the India A series against Australia starting October 6 and understandably, he cannot be selected for a series beginning on September 27.
