Sanjay Yadav, K Easwaran powers Trichy into Playoffs, Chepauk eliminated

In a thrilling match, the Trichy Grand Cholas held their nerve to defeat Chepauk Super Gillies by 14 runs. Despite CSG's strong response to Trichy's 191/7 score, they were able to turn the tide and maintain their total in a thrilling finish thanks to crucial wickets at crucial points.

Chepauk struck early through Swapnil Singh, who dismissed both Trichy openers. After that, Sanjay Yadav and Shyam Sundar retook the innings with an 85-run partnership, scoring 52 and 54 runs, respectively, to propel Trichy to 191/7. For CSG, M Silambarasan took three wickets and Swapnil two.

When Trichy pacer Athisayaraj Davidson struck to dismiss Mokit Hariharan, Chepauk Super Gillies suffered an early setback in their chase. Antony Dhas then added to the pressure by removing CSG captain N Jagadeesan, helping Trichy keep the scoring rate in check during the powerplay.

Chepauk, however, responded through Aashiq, who took the attack to the bowlers with an aggressive approach and brought up his second half-century of the season. Along with Ram Arvindh, he forged an important 87-run partnership for the third wicket, shifting the momentum firmly towards CSG.

The partnership was eventually broken by Selva Kumaran, who dismissed Ram Arvindh for a brisk 32 off 23 balls after the batter mistimed his shot. After that, Sanjay Yadav made the crucial breakthrough, dismissing Aashiq for a magnificent 75 off 41 balls and reversing the momentum in Trichy's favor. In the 18th over, K Easwaran struck a decisive double blow that got rid of Swapnil Singh and Mohana Prasath, putting Chepauk's chase in disarray. In the end, Trichy held their nerve to win by 14 runs, which was thrilling.

Captain Jagadeesan said, "We know where we need to improve, especially in the bowling department, and we will look to come back stronger next season" as he thought about the loss. We must strike a balance because it has been a collective problem at times, with both the batting and bowling units failing. There are numerous benefits. We’ve quality players like Ashwanth Valthappa, Dinesh Raj, Mohana Prasath, Aashiq and Mokit Hariharan.

Reflecting on the win, Jafar Jamal said- On a batting-friendly surface, pace variations and cutters were crucial and our death bowlers executed brilliantly under pressure. We stick to our plans and are confident heading into the playoffs thanks to clearly defined roles from the start.
