San Francisco Unicorns sign Ashwin for MLC 2026

Ravichandran Ashwin has been signed by the San Francisco Unicorns for the Major League Cricket season 2026. Ashwin will be the first Indian player with a cap to play in the league. The offspinner brings a wealth of experience from both the international and league levels. In addition to his participation in 65 T20I appearances and over 100 Test and ODI appearances, he was an integral part of India's victories at the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He has played for Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals, making him one of the best wicket takers in the IPL. "The opportunity to be a part of it with the San Francisco Unicorns was an opportunity I couldn't pass up," Ashwin stated. "The MLC has proven over the past few seasons that it can put on a show, bringing in world-class players and offering significant exposure to US domestic cricket talent." "I fully accept the enormous responsibility of becoming the first Indian player with a cap to play in Major League Cricket. My only goal is to assist this team in winning games, aiming for its first championship, and playing spectacular cricket for the Bay Area fans. Cameron White, the head coach of the Unicorns, said that the signing brought both experience and quality to the team. "We are overjoyed to have a player of Ashwin's caliber join the Unicorns. His name is at the top of the list worldwide when it comes to cricket intelligence and match-winners. "It's a huge moment for our franchise and MLC as a whole to bring in the first Indian player, but first and foremost, he's here to help us win games. I can't wait to enter camp and begin working with him. His skill variations and experience in high-pressure situations will be invaluable on the field and in the nets." Co-owner Anand Rajaraman referred to it as a significant addition for the league and the team. "For the Unicorns and the league as a whole, the signing of Ravi Ashwin, a true global cricketing icon, is a significant event. Ashwin will not only bring a unique wealth of T20 experience and cricketing talent to the team, but he will also undoubtedly shine a spotlight on the team." The Unicorns will play the LA Knight Riders on June 19 at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, and the final will be on July 18 at Oakland Coliseum.
