Sam Curran set to miss IPL 2026 due to groin injury

The England all-rounder Sam Curran is expected to miss the IPL 2026 season at his new franchise due to a rumored groin problem. This is a setback for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Curran last played on March 5 at the T20 World Cup in 2026, where England lost in the semi-final to eventual champion India. After RR acquired Curran in a trade with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in November, he was scheduled to make his debut for the team. CSK traded Curran and India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to RR in exchange for India wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who won the T20 World Cup's Player of the Tournament award. After beginning his career in 2019 with Punjab Kings (PBKS), Curran would have represented RR, the third franchise in the IPL. Curran then played for CSK in 2020 and 2021. In 2023, Curran was the most expensive player in the league, costing INR 18.5 crore, and he played for PBKS again in 2024. For IPL 2025, Curran was repurchased by CSK for INR 2.4 million. In five games, he scored 114 runs and took just one wicket. Although the franchise is reported to have considered a few options, there is currently no confirmation regarding the person RR are likely to hire as Curran's replacement. In addition to Jadeja, RR also have Donovan Ferreira, an all-rounder who is a power hitter who can bowl fast offspin. Just like Jadeja and Curran, Ferreria, too, was bought by RR via a trade at his base price of INR 1 crore from Delhi Capitals.
