Sahibzada Farhan Appointed Pakistan T20I Captain as Salman Ali Agha Sacked
T20I Leadership Change: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed opening batter Sahibzada Farhan as the new T20I captain, officially replacing Salman Ali Agha.
Agha Dropped Entirely: Following poor team campaigns in the Asia Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup, Salman Ali Agha was not only sacked as captain but dropped from the T20I squad completely. Farhan's Rise: Farhan earns the full-time role following a strong run of form as the leading run-scorer in the 2026 T20 World Cup and fresh off captaining Pakistan to a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games.
Major Squad Overhaul: Key senior players Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf have been left out of the revamped T20I squad to give opportunities to younger talent. Maiden Call-Ups: Power-hitter Razaullah (fresh off smashing 9 sixes in the 3rd Test against England) and Mohammad Imran Randhawa earned their first T20I call-ups.
Tait comes back to Pakistan after a successful 12-month stint as Bangladesh's fast-bowling coach, which has seen the value of their fast-bowling stock soar. He quit in June, overseeing a 2-0 Test series victory against Pakistan, where Bangladesh's pace bowlers played key roles. Under Tait, Bangladesh beat Pakistan in ODI and T20I series. Back in Pakistan, he replaces Ashley Noffke, who quit as bowling coach to take up the head coach's role with Netherlands.
Pakistan's T20I series against Sri Lanka begins on October 9, with all three matches to be played in Rawalpindi. The ODI tri-series starts on October 18, with Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka in the opener in Rawalpindi.
Dual Setup Roles: While Shaheen Afridi was omitted from the T20I side, he remains the ODI captain for the upcoming tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England.
