Rizvi's Masterclass Guides DC Past MI in High-Stakes Match
Sameer Rizvi is on fire! He just got his second Player-of-the-Match award in IPL 2026, scoring an impressive 90 off 51 balls against Mumbai Indians, helping Delhi Capitals win with six wickets and 11 balls to spare. This is his third consecutive Player-of-the-Match award, including one from the last game of the 2025 season. He's among an elite group of eight players to achieve this feat, and no one's gone beyond three in a row.
Sounds like it was a real nail-biter! DC's bowlers definitely put the squeeze on MI, didn't they? Suryakumar's 51 was crucial, but yeah, it was tough going for the rest of the batting lineup. And Nissanka's cameo was the turning point, followed by Rizvi's fireworks !
Mukesh Kumar started waywardly, and Ryan Rickelton made him pay with two leg-side boundaries. From the other end, Rohit Sharma did the same against Lungi Ngidi. But Mukesh bounced back in his second over. He had Rickelton miscuing to mid-off and then caught and bowled Tilak Varma off a knuckleball.
Sounds like Mumbai Indians had a solid start with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav at the crease! Axar's clever move to bring himself on and sneak in a three-run over, and Rohit's stylish fours off Ngidi's slower ones are highlights of the powerplay. MI's six-less powerplay is a notable stat, last seen in 2023 against CSK in Chepauk.
Four dismissals in the IPL, and Rohit's struggling to find a way past him. Ngidi's wicket was a big one, though - Suryakumar's gone, and MI's scoring rate's taken a hit. Death overs were a struggle for them, Hardik's absence was felt.
Against Lucknow Super Giants, Rahul was out for a first-ball duck. Here he lasted three balls and made 1 before being caught down the leg side off Deepak Chahar. Rana was run out in the next over when Jasprit Bumrah, after fielding the ball off his own bowling, nailed a direct hit at the non-striker's end.
At 7 for 2, Nissanka decided to take the attacking route. In the fourth over, he picked up back-to-back fours off Mitchell Santner, the second of which came via a reverse-hit over a leaping Rohit at cover. In the following over, he smashed two fours and a six off Shardul Thakur. Nissanka got a life on 41 when Dhir dropped him off Corbin Bosch but he fell to Santner three runs later.
Bummer of a finish for Rizvi . DC must've been pretty pleased with that wicket, game basically wrapped up for them.
Delhi Capitals164 for 4 (Rizvi 90, Nissanka 44, Chahar 1-20) beat Mumbai Indians 162 for 6 (Suryakumar 51, Mukesh 2-26, Axar 1-22) by six wickets
