Promo Shoot Mishap Leaves Rachin Ravindra Nursing Shoulder Injury Ahead of India Series

Rachin Ravindra is in doubt for New Zealand's upcoming T20I series against India after dislocating his right shoulder during a promotional shoot in Auckland.

Freak Incident: Ravindra dislocated his shoulder after landing awkwardly on a safety mat while executing a diving catch for a broadcaster commercial. Medical Status: Initial specialist assessments cleared him of any major structural damage. However, his return-to-play timeline depends on his rehabilitation progress over the coming weeks.  

Long-Term Focus: New Zealand head coach Rob Walter stressed that Ravindra will not be rushed back, prioritizing his fitness for a heavy Test schedule—including an upcoming tour of Australia—over the white-ball series.  

Upcoming Series: The five-match T20I series against India begins in Christchurch on October 22, with New Zealand scheduled to name their squad next week.

"As with all commercial shoots involving our players, the activities were agreed in advance by all parties, with appropriate safety measures in place. It was a bit of a freak accident, and we'll continue to review our processes around events like this in the future."

Head coach Rob Walter said New Zealand were not going to rush Ravindra back.

"With a heavy schedule of Test cricket in the next six months, we don't want to rush Rachin back sooner than we need to," he said. "He's in great hands in terms of his rehab and we look forward to welcoming him back soon."
