Parag undergoes shoulder surgery, Likely to miss Domestic Season

Riyan Parag has undergone surgery in his right shoulder, and will now undergo a period of rehabilitation before he returns to action. The expected duration of Parag's rehabilitation is unknown at this time.

Parag had originally been part of the India A squad for the ongoing 50-overs tri-series in Sri Lanka, and named vice-captain, but had been ruled out with a hamstring injury and replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The hamstring issue had troubled Parag during the second half of his IPL 2026 campaign with Rajasthan Royals (RR), forcing him to miss a game against Lucknow Super Giants before returning for his team's must-win final league game against Mumbai Indians, which he revealed he had played despite not being fully fit.

Parag went on to play for RR in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 as well. While running between the wickets, he complained of discomfort. In an Instagram post, Parag said that the shoulder problem had been there for a long time.

It is understood that it first surfaced during IPL 2025, and that Parag had been managing it in coordination with the BCCI's medical staff. While surgery had been listed as an option, doctors had advised Parag that he could delay it until the issue began to affect his game. Parag eventually decided to go under the blade after consulting with the BCCI's medical team.

"For everyone who's been asking, the surgery is done and went well," Parag wrote.

"The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge.

However, I could not have wished for anything else. "Recovery, rehabilitation, and patience are the new challenges that lie ahead. "I will soon be back doing what I love. On the other side, see you."
