Olly Stone holds nerve as Nottinghamshire seal one-run victory
At Trent Bridge, Nottinghamshire won by one run to extend their winning streak in the Blast's North Group to six with a last-ball victory over Lancashire. Notts made 181 for 6 in the victory, which keeps the Outlaws at the top of the North Group.
Scotland international George Munsey took 51 off 39 balls, Tom Moores took 40 off 26 and George Linde took 37 off 24. For Lightning, Keaton Jennings (42 off 29) and Liam Livingstone (47 off 31) did most of the heavy lifting. Joe Moores, Tom's cousin and the nephew of Outlaws head coach Peter, made 30 of 21 shots to keep his team in the hunt.
But in the end, Notts and England pace bowler Olly Stone had the last word, defending nine off the final over. Moores was caught three balls later after being dropped once on the boundary, but Jack Blatherwick and Matty Hurst, who needed four off the final delivery, could only run two. Munsey quickly found his rhythm, launching Livingstone over the long-off boundary and hammering four fours in a row off Tom Aspinwall three hours earlier.
Lightning had chosen to bowl first and removed Joe Clarke in the first over. After six, the Outlaws were 53 for 1. After sweeping the line, they lost Jack Haynes and finished the half with 78 for 2 points. After completing his fifth half-century in his final six Blast innings, Munsey mistimed a shot to mid-off, ending his 415 minutes of continuous participation in Blast play.
Before Moores chose his namesake and cousin, Joe, at deep midwicket, Linde picked up the pace and the fourth-wicket pair added 52 in 28 balls. After that, Blatherwick gained some ground and was able to catch Benny Howell off his own bowling. As Freddie McCann's two boundaries increased the Lancashire target to 182, Linde top-edged Jimmy Anderson in the final over before sending Shadab soaring over wide long-on twice.
Lancashire were playing well at 88 for 2 from 10 with nine overs. Both wickets had been taken by left-arm spinners, and Linde struck first to bowl Michael Jones out. Before Liam Patterson-White caught Jennings at long off, he hit two sixes off Mohammad Amir and one off Howell.
Ben McDermott (24 off 17) and Livingstone left in the 15th and 16th overs, respectively. Livingstone cleared the ropes three times before being caught on the midwicket boundary thanks to excellent doubling up by McCann and Patterson-White. By that time, 33 out of 26 was all that was needed. Mohammad Ali raised home hopes with a superb 18th over, costing just two runs and claiming the wicket of Shadab via a boundary catch. Moores and Hurst got 10 off Amir when they needed 19 from the last two, but another nine off Stone was just too much.
