No Bumrah for Afghanistan Test, Rahul Replaces Pant as VC

Big Selection Calls Jasprit Bumrah rested for the one-off Afghanistan Test + 3 ODIs as part of workload management. Will return for England tour later this summer. KL Rahul replaces Rishabh Pant as Test vice-captain. Shubman Gill continues as captain. Rishabh Pant dropped from ODI squad and loses Test VC role. The fixture is India's first Test match since the 2-0 defeat to South Africa at home last November. Apart from Bumrah and Jadeja, the other omissions from that squad are left-arm spin allrounder Axar Patel and fast bowler Akash Deep. Rajasthan left-arm spin allrounder Manav Suthar and Punjab fast bowler Gurnoor Brar got their maiden call-ups to the Test squad, while another left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey, from Vidarbha, has also been included. Agarkar on Bumrah: "Bumrah will be back when we tour England. He is working on his workload". Agarkar on Pant: "We want him to become the best Test player that he has always been... I don’t think there is any concern with his spot in the Test team". Agarkar on Rahul VC: "KL provides us the necessary experience that you need just in case. He obviously had a really good trip of England". "That's the best option we think at this point that we have as far as vice-captain with experience," Agarkar said of Rahul. "We saw during the South African series as well when Shubman got injured. And KL provides us with the necessary experience that you need in case the situation arises. Plus, he has obviously had a really good tour of England and against the West Indies."
