Nitish Kumar Reddy out injured: misses Ireland, England tours

Nitish Kumar Reddy, 23, India seam-bowling all-rounder, ruled out of Ireland T20I series with left quadriceps . scan: Swelling with fiber disruption in left quadriceps. Timeline: Expected to take 4 weeks minimum to recover, putting England T20I series July 1-11 in doubt. Reddy picked up the injury while bowling during the first ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamsala and was subsequently rested for the second game in Lucknow. He returned to play in the last game in Chennai, bowling six wicketless overs for 42 runs, after which he is understood to have complained of discomfort. Sustained during recent ODI series vs Afghanistan. Missed 2nd ODI in Lucknow – captain Shubman Gill said he had "some issues with his quad" Returned for 3rd ODI in Chennai: Bowled 6 overs, 0/42, didn't bat. Selected for both Ireland + England white-ball squads as Hardik Pandya’s backup. Pandya also out with quadriceps niggle, not fit to bowl 10 overs in ODIs. BCCI view: Reddy was being groomed as Pandya’s backup for ODI World Cup 2027Replacement: Yet to be announced by BCCI. Shedge travelled to Sri Lanka recently for the 'A' team tri-series, and while he did well with the bat, scoring his maiden List A half-century in a game against Sri Lanka A, his returns with the ball were less satisfactory: 23 overs across five matches while taking two wickets with an average of 69.50 and an economy rate of 6.04. India are scheduled to play two T20Is in Ireland this weekend (June 26 and 28), before heading over to England for a five-match T20I series starting July 1, which will be followed by three ODIs. The T20Is in Ireland will be India's first since their T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year, and they will be led by new T20I captain, Shreyas Iyer. Bottom line: Quadriceps injury rules Nitish Kumar Reddy out of the Ireland T20Is starting June 26 and likely the England series too. With Pandya also injured, India lose both seam-bowling all-rounders for the UK tour. It’s another setback in a year of fitness issues for the 23-year-old, just as he was building pace and momentum.
