Mumbai Indians part ways with Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey
As their internal overhaul continues, the Mumbai Indians have parted ways with bowling coaches Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson. They have let go a few others just a few days after they let go of head coach Mahela Jaywardene. Kieron Pollard was recently appointed as head coach. It is anticipated that T Dilip, a former India fielding coach, will join MI in the same capacity.
In a statement, the franchise stated, "Lasith Malinga has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians family and one of the most iconic figures in the franchise's history." "Lasith's journey with MI has been truly special, from leading MI's bowling attack and playing a pivotal role in four IPL title victories and the 2011 Champions League T20 victory to returning as a mentor and coach. Generations of players have been inspired by his enthusiasm, competitive spirit, and dedication to the team. His legacy will forever remain an important part of Mumbai Indians."
Mhambrey arrived at MI as a bowling coach right after being part of India's T20 World Cup win in 2024. He served his role at MI for two seasons of IPL and was even appointed bowling coach of MI Emirates. This wasn't Mhambrey's first stint with the team. He was in their support staff in the inaugural season in 2008. He also served for a considerable amount of time, from 2010 to 2017, when MI won the CLT20 and their first title.
"Paras Mhambrey has been associated with the Mumbai Indians for a considerable amount of time, beginning in 2010 and continuing until his return in 2024. Paras has brought a lot of experience, hard work, and a deep understanding of the MI culture to both spells. The MI said in a statement that "his contribution to developing and nurturing the team's bowling talent, as well as the relationships he has built over the years, have been greatly appreciated."
Hopkinson took over for James Pamment prior to the 2025 season. Hopkinson was the England men's team's ECB Lead Fielding Coach from 2018 to 2024. He also helped England win the World Cup in 2019 and 2022.
