Match-winners McKenzie and Russell drive Kingsmen to first victory

Jamaica Kingsmen picked up their first victory of the CPL 2026 season, pulling off a thrilling five-wicket win over Trinbago Knight Riders at Kingston as they chased down 183 with eight balls to spare.

TKR Power Recovery: After being restricted to 69 runs in their opening 10 overs, TKR accelerated thanks to Kieron Pollard (44) and Nicholas Pooran (44), who shared a 67-run third-wicket stand. A late 8-ball 19* from Sunil Narine lifted TKR to 182/6.

McKenzie's Early Blasts: Kirk McKenzie set up the chase with an explosive 69 off just 25 balls, leaving Kingsmen needing only 90 runs off 13 overs with nine wickets intact.

TKR Spin Fightback: TKR choked the scoring in the middle overs behind tight spells from Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, and Usman Tariq (3/21). Kingsmen managed just 36 runs for 3 wickets over an 8-over stretch, setting up a steep target of 54 runs required off the final 30 balls.

Russell & Powell Finish the Job: Andre Russell (27 off 15) and Rovman Powell (29* off 22) launched a fierce late counter-attack, smashing 45 runs across two overs to seal the victory.

Slow Opening Phase: After being put into bat, Trinbago Knight Riders were restricted to 69 runs in their opening ten overs, with Colin Munro making a laboured 16 off 26 balls and Alex Hales scoring 29 off 21.

Pollard & Pooran Acceleration: Kieron Pollard kickstarted the innings by hitting Vitel Lawes for 4, 6, 6, 6 in a single over, while Nicholas Pooran struck two sixes off Odean Smith in the following over. The pair shared a rapid 67-run stand for the third wicket. Late Narine Cameo: Sunil Narine provided a flourish at the death with an unbeaten 19 off eight balls, propelling TKR to a total of 182/6.

Russell & Powell Finish: During the chase, Andre Russell and captain Rovman Powell struck five fours and three sixes combined across two overs. Though Terrance Hinds removed Russell for 27 (15 balls), Powell anchored the finish with an unbeaten 29 off 22 to seal Jamaica Kingsmen's five-wicket victory.

Jamaica Kingsmen 183 for 5 (McKenzie 69, Hendricks 37, Tariq 3-21) beat Trinbago Knight Riders 182 for 6 (Pollard 44, Pooran 44, Hunain 2-31) by five wickets
