Maddinson, Shaw to lead NSW Blues in 2026-27 season under Haddin

Nic Maddinson and Lachlan Shaw have been appointed captains of New South Wales for the upcoming Australian domestic season after allrounder Jack Edwards opted to step down to manage his workload and performance.

Leadership Split:

Sheffield Shield: Nic Maddinson, 34, returns to the red-ball captaincy for a second tenure after previously holding the post in 2015-16. Maddinson did not play for NSW last season while undergoing treatment for testicular cancer, but has since fully recovered.

The captaincy changes build on a new-look for NSW this season under Haddin who was brought in as Greg Shipperd's replacement. He has built a fresh group of assistant coaches including most recently Peter Siddle and Johan Botha.

"We've got a really hungry group that want to make a difference at New South Wales," Haddin said. "They want to win titles, they care deeply about playing for New South Wales. We've got a lot of rebuilding to do, we've got some standards that we need to stick to and set, but all the players have been really responsive and really hungry to get some results for New South Wales."

One-Day Cup: Wicketkeeper-batter Lachlan Shaw takes over the 50-over reins for defending champions NSW, appointed with only 14 List A appearances to his credit as part of a push to develop young leaders.

Jack Edwards Steps Down: Edwards relinquished the leadership to focus on his individual role and will miss early domestic games while on tour with Australia A in India.

New Coaching Era: The appointments mark a new chapter under newly appointed head coach Brad Haddin, who has built a fresh coaching staff including assistant coaches Peter Siddle and Johan Botha.
