LSG vs DC: Mayank Yadav's Comeback Sparks Hope for Lucknow

Mayank Yadav is set to make his comeback for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2026 opener, having been sidelined with injuries for the past two seasons. LSG head coach Justin Langer confirmed Mayank's fitness, saying he's "fully fit" and ready to feature in the tournament opener. Mayank's return is a significant boost for LSG, given his impressive speed and ability to breach 150 kph. Mayank Yadav: Fit-again fast bowler looking to make an impact, Rishabh Pant: LSG captain aiming for a strong comeback, Aiden Markram: In-form batsman opening for LSG Before their season opener, LSG will be missing Wanindu Hasaranga, whom they had acquired for INR 2 crore. The allrounder isn't in India yet, as he's due to clear a fitness test by Sri Lanka Cricket. Mitchell Starc, whom DC retained for INR 11.75 crore, will be missing the early part of the season as he's recovering from a shoulder and an elbow injury. LSG's dilemma - balancing overseas talent with Indian players. Replacing Hasaranga with Anrich Nortje makes sense on a red-soil pitch in Lucknow, but they can't rely solely on Marsh, Markram, and Pooran. Their Indian batters need to step up, considering the overseas trio crushed it with over 400 runs each last IPL. Rishabh Pant's batting position is a hot topic ! He absolutely killed it at No. 3 in LSG's last game, scoring 118*. But with Pooran's history at that spot, it's a tough call. Pant's T20 experience is limited, so maybe LSG wants to play it safe and keep him at the top? Or maybe he'll open with KL Rahul and Pooran shifts to No. 3. DC also have work to do on their top order. Pathum Nissanka was seen having a lengthy practice session with KL Rahul two days out from the match, and could open the batting. Nitish Rana was Delhi's top run-getter at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26, with five of his seven innings coming from No. 3, and could take that spot for DC. DC are 4-0 up against LSG from the sides' previous contests, two of which came in Lucknow. On Wednesday, the hosts will hope that the scoreline doesn't worsen.
