Litton Das: No Point in Resigning as Bangladesh Captain
Following the team's disappointing performance at the 2026 Asian Games, Bangladesh captain Litton Das stated on Saturday that he will not resign.
After losing to Sri Lanka by 63 runs in the bronze medal match, Bangladesh failed for the first time to win a medal in a cricket event at the Asian Games. After Bangladesh reduced Sri Lanka's batting order to 21/4, Tharindu Ratnayake's counter-attacking 65 won the game in Sri Lanka's favor.
Litton praised Ratnayake for turning the game around while acknowledging that Bangladesh did not play to their full potential.
We bowled very well in the first eight overs, I believe. Litton told reporters after the game that when you saw the kind of shots that Ratnayake took and played on this wicket, it was very difficult.
However, he batted extraordinarily where our bowlers couldn't recover. As a result, he deserves praise for his extraordinary batting performance. We were also unable to conceal it when we went to bat. We didn't bat as well as we should have today.
Even though he acknowledged that his own returns with the bat left more to be desired after managing scores of 2 and 0, Litton insisted that there was no point in him stepping down from his position as captain when asked about his future.
My performance fell short of expectations. Litton stated, "I could not perform well in either of the matches."
I'm not going to quit. Cricket has its ups and downs. It will be good and bad at different times. Resigning is pointless in this situation. It is typical. I brought a big target with me. It is normal for everyone to feel bad when I am unable to deliver that. However, we have given a lot in the past as a team. I believe we will also give in the future. We'll try again for that,” he continued.
In the meantime, it was reported that the Bangladeshi players might face disciplinary action because they left the team hotel without informing the appropriate authorities. After the loss, that became a topic of conversation, and Litton explained why the players left and screamed at the facilities.
"Practice is necessary. Do you have access to facilities? "No," Litton replied. So, will a player spend the entire day confined to a room?
They require energy. Will a player not eat if you believe that the food provided by the Asian Games or the federation here is not suitable for us? Therefore, they must leave in order to eat. He stated, "That's what the players did."
