Litton Das back in Bangladesh ODI squad for Pakistan series
As one of several changes for the upcoming three-match series against Pakistan, which begins next week in Mirpur, Bangladesh has recalled Litton Das to their ODI squad.
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain said that all-rounder Afif Hossain had always been in their plans. Fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam also returned.
However, Shamim Hossain, Jaker Ali, and Nurul Hasan were not selected.
Ashraf stated, "We have provided opportunities to a number of players in the middle order, but unfortunately some have not done enough to secure their places." Afif Hossain has been recalled with that in mind. He has always been a part of our plans. Afif is currently well-connected and brings valuable experience. Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan has been retained, providing him with yet another chance to realize his potential.
Bangladesh are hoping to capitalize on Litton's experience, as he hasn't scored double digits in eight ODIs since December 2023. Litton has had a poor run in ODIs recently.
"You can't overlook the experience of nearly a hundred international matches in this format," Ashraf stated. "Litton Das may not have produced his best in recent ODIs." "On his game, he has been working closely with the coaches. We believe that he will soon perform to his potential. We're thinking about adding him to the middle order as an option. In the meantime, Soumya Sarkar has performed admirably on an international stage."
Hasan Mahmud, a quick bowler, has a right tennis elbow injury, and Tanzim Hasan, another quick bowler, is recovering from a back problem. Despite their absence for the series, both bowlers are anticipated to regain full fitness by the end of the month.
The one-day international series will begin on March 11 and run through March 15.
