Lancashire appoint Matthew Mott as T20 coaching consultant

Matthew Mott has joined Lancashire as a men's T20 coaching consultant. The two-year deal will see England's former limited overs coach work closely with the coaching set-up at Lancashire for the Vitality Blast, led by head coach Steven Croft. It is also further establishes his working relationship at Emirates Old Trafford, where he will take charge of Manchester Super Giants in this year's women's Hundred following the takeover by RPSG Group, who bought a 70 per cent stake (£80 million) in the team during last year's lucrative Hundred sale. Between the years 2022 and 2024, Mott was in charge of England's white ball teams, which won the T20 World Cup in his first year. He previously oversaw a dominant period for the Australia Women's team as head coach over a seven-year period in which they won consecutive T20 World Cups, the 50-over title and four Ashes series. The 52-year-old Australian was hired as a part-time coach for Glamorgan the previous season, in a contract similar to the one he is signing with Lancashire and centered on coaching development. He has also managed franchises for Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, and he is currently head coach and assistant coach for the Sydney Sixers men's and women's WBBL teams, respectively. "I'm really excited to be joining Lancashire as a T20 coaching consultant for the Vitality Blast over the next two years," said Mott in a statement released by Lancashire. "The Club has big plans for white-ball cricket, a talented group of players, and a long history. "I'm excited to collaborate with the squad and coaching staff to help develop that potential and add value wherever I can." I'm eager to begin and contribute to what we hope will be a successful campaign at Emirates Old Trafford because the Blast is a very competitive tournament. Speaking on the appointment, Lancashire's director of cricket performance Mark Chilton said: ""Matthew's track record speaks for itself. He has achieved sustained success at international level, winning global tournaments and leading high-performing teams in pressure environments. Over the next two seasons, our Blast campaigns will greatly benefit from his experience and tactical insights. "We are constantly looking at ways to strengthen while further supporting Steven and his coaches - and bringing someone of Matthew's calibre into the environment can only be a positive. "Matthew's position with Manchester Super Giants following the conclusion of the Blast is a nice fit for him to work at Emirates Old Trafford." Last year's Vitality Blast saw Lancashire win the North Group, but they lost in the semis to eventual winners Somerset. Their only success in the competition came in 2015.
