Lahore Qalandars fine Shaheen Afridi for violating security protocols
Following an internal investigation into an alleged breach of security protocols at the team hotel on March 28, the Lahore Qalandars have assessed Shaheen Shah Afridi a fine of PKR 1 million. The incident, on the other hand, was referred to by the team as "overstated in public discourse and amplified beyond its actual context." Soon after the incident was reported, the franchise launched an investigation to determine whether any actions had violated Pakistan Super League rules.
According to the franchise, the "voluntary and proactive" penalty was imposed to enforce discipline and demonstrate accountability. "The franchise has taken a voluntary and proactive step by imposing a fine of PKR 1 million on Shaheen Shah Afridi for his involvement, in the interest of maintaining discipline and demonstrating accountability."
A release from the Qalandars stated, "Lahore Qalandars has also formally communicated a detailed response, along with its observations on the matter, to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)." "The franchise expressed its sincere gratitude to security personnel for their efforts and acknowledged their crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for players, officials, and spectators.
"Lahore Qalandars reiterated its full respect for all security protocols," the statement continued, "while underscoring that the matter arose from a misunderstanding rather than any deliberate attempt to violate established procedures." Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar Raza were both involved in the alleged security breach at the team hotel. Even though formal requests were made to security officials and the PCB, four unauthorised visitors were initially denied access to the players' floor, according to reports.
However, despite the advice and opposition of on-duty security personnel, the players allegedly ignored these refusals and escorted the guests to their hotel room, where they reportedly remained for approximately three hours.
