Labuschagne Named One-Day Cup's Best Player Again
Marnus Labuschagne has been crowned the One-Day Cup Player of the Year for his outstanding performance in the 2025-26 season. He secured the award with 20 votes, narrowly beating Kurtis Patterson, who finished with 19 votes. Labuschagne's impressive season included 468 runs in six innings at an average of 78 and a strike rate of 96.49, with four centuries. This achievement marks his third Player of the Year award, making him the first player to win it three times.
Labuschagne also took 2 for 26 with the ball in the game against NSW and made two centuries more against Victoria and South Australia.
He finished with 20 votes edging out New South Wales batter Kurtis Patterson who polled 19 votes after making three centuries and two half-centuries in seven innings.
So the voting system has changed, and now each on-field umpire awards 3-2-1 votes separately, allowing players to get up to 6 votes per game. This is different from before, where the umpires voted together on the 3-2-1. Makes sense, more individual input from umpires now.
Beau Webster secured third place in the One-Day Cup Player of the Year voting with 12 votes, narrowly ahead of his Tasmania teammate Tim Ward and Western Australia's Joel Curtis, who tied for fourth with 10 votes each. This achievement highlights Webster's impressive performance in the tournament.
Labuschagne's remarkable performance earned him a recall to the Australian Test side, and he's now part of the elite group of players who've scored four centuries in a One-Day Cup season, joining Phil Jaques, Brad Hodge, and Daniel Hughes.
