Jos Buttler, Archer to miss ODI tri-series in Pakistan
Key England players Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer will miss England's ODI tri-series in Pakistan later this month. Buttler will not play because he injured his hamstring in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. Archer has been rested because he had a busy summer with England.
Legspinner Adil Rashid returns to the 16-member squad after missing England's recent 2-1 ODI series win over Sri Lanka with a hand injury. Sam Curran, an all-rounder, is also back from a groin injury.
Eight years after his last appearance for England, Glamorgan leg spinner Mason Crane has been recalled to the team. Crane was selected for the Sydney Ashes Test against Australia in January 2018 and has two T20I caps. He still has no ODI cap. In the meantime, the uncapped Sussex duo of Henry Crocombe and James Coles, who participated in England's white-ball squads this summer, have been selected once more.
England Men National Selector Marcus North said the tri-series would provide the squad with an opportunity to test themselves in different conditions. "Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return to the squad following their respective injuries while Jofra Archer has been rested to manage his workload following a busy summer.
"Throughout the summer, Mason Crane has been consistently performing for Glamorgan in both formats. He is a skilled, high-class leg spinner who absolutely deserving of another international opportunity."
In Rawalpindi and Lahore, the tri-series, which also features Sri Lanka, will be shown. The two teams will play a double round-robin before the top two teams square off in the final scheduled at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 31.
