Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of third ODI with knee injury

Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the third ODI against England on Sunday (July 19) after suffering from a knee injury.

At the toss, captain Shubman Gill confirmed that Bumrah had been left out due to a knee issue, one of three changes India made from the second ODI. Having lost the Cardiff game, and with the series level 1-1, India welcomed back KL Rahul from illness, and also included Prince Yadav and Arshdeep Singh at Lord's.

"Jasprit Bumrah had an impact injury on his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff," read a statement from the BCCI. He was not available for selection for the third ODI due to reactive swelling in his left knee".

Following his thrifty streak of 1-31 from nine overs in the first game, Bumrah had completed his quota in the second ODI with figures of 1-45.

The BCCI also confirmed a day before the series finale that Washington Sundar would not play in the third one-day international due to a hamstring injury. Harsh Dubey was then added to the team. However, India did not prefer going with either him or Kuldeep Yadav, instead shoring up their fast-bowling resources.

With KL Rahul coming in, India decided to drop Shivam Dube as well, retaining Ishan Kishan, who had replaced Rahul in the second ODI.

On the selection of Arshdeep, who wasn't picked for the first two ODIs, Gill said: "We're not the ones who rely on stats so much. We think he's a great bowler, and we were looking for four seamers on this ground. We have seen in the middle overs, spinners don't really offer much as compared to the fast bowlers".

England also made one change from the second ODI in Cardiff, bringing back Josh Tongue in place of Saqib Mahmood.
