Jangoo, Chase lead WI's fight on Day 2

Amir Jangoo, a wicketkeeper and batsman for the West Indies, made only his second Test appearance, but his unbeaten 78 off 174 balls was crucial to the West Indies' retaliation on Day 2 in Antigua. He had captain Roston Chase at the other end of an unbeaten 103-run stand, who finished the day on 42* and raised West Indies' total to 271/5. West Indies started the day brightly.

John Campbell and Brandon King, the openers, finished the first hour with boundaries and added 58 runs for the first wicket. Milan Rathnayake ended that partnership in the 14th over with the wicket of King, but Campbell carried on in the company of Kavem Hodge, taking West Indies to 89/1 at Lunch.

As they increased the frequency with which they broke through in the middle phase, Sri Lanka returned from the break with renewed vigor. It began with Campbell's early session dismissal to Sonal Dinusha. All of Hodge, Joshua da Silva and Justin Greaves got starts, but couldn't press on beyond the session with a big partnership.

Jangoo and da Silva almost had it with a 52-run stand that paved the way for a rebuilding of the West Indies, but Asitha Fernando, who was extremely thrifty (2/25 in 18 overs), got rid of the latter. Sri Lanka had a chance to regain control during the middle session after West Indies lost four wickets for an additional 79 runs. In order to halt Sri Lanka's ambitious plans, Jangoo and Chase batted together for 203 deliveries, which included the entire final session.

Due to Lahiru Kumara's early departure from the field with a hamstring strain, the visitors also lacked a bowler. Jangoo and Chase capitalised on Sri Lanka's inability to be incisive towards the end by batting out the final session, adding 103 runs and putting West Indies within touching distance of Sri Lanka's first-innings total.
