Jaker Ali replaces injured Mominul Haque as concussion substitute in Dhaka Test
After suffering a head injury while fielding on the third day of the first Test against the West Indies in Dhaka, Bangladesh's No. 3 batter, Mominul Haque, has been replaced by Jaker Ali as a concussion substitute.
When attempting a catch close to the bat in the 78th over of West Indies' first innings, shortly after the lunch break, he suffered the injury.
The batter, Joshua Bishop, used hard hands to defend Mehidy Hasan Miraz's offspin, sending the ball flying to Mominul, the short-leg fielder, on the left side. After throwing himself, Mominul was able to catch the ball, but he lost control of it and crashed face-first to the ground while still wearing his helmet. He was immediately removed from the field.
In a statement, Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan stated that Mominul had sustained "a head injury." "He has been replaced by Jaker Ali Anik as the concussion sub for the remainder of the match, as he has shown signs of a concussion."
Later, when Bangladesh lost their third wicket in their second innings, Jaker was seen padded up to bat, and had to make his way to the middle soon after when captain Najmul Hossain Shanto fell to Roston Chase, becoming the West Indies captain's third wicket of the innings. Before the rain stopped play and tea was taken early, Jaker had just started. Mominul usually bats at No. 3, but Shanto had batted there.
After a break of 16 months, Jaker will play in his first Test since June 2025, when he played against Sri Lanka.
He also had work to do because Bangladesh's second innings ended at 34 for 4, with a 61-run lead.
