Italy Cruises to First World Cup Win, Thanks to Moscas' Stellar Performance

Italy secured their first-ever T20 World Cup win by dismantling Nepal by 10 wickets in Mumbai. The Mosca brothers, Justin (60*) and Anthony (62*), led the charge with an unbeaten 124-run opening partnership, chasing down the target in just 12.4 overs. Crishan Kalugamage's 3/18 and Ben Manenti's 2/9 helped Italy restrict Nepal to 123. Nepal's batting lineup struggled against Italy's spin attack, with Aasif Sheikh's 27 being the top score. Italy's spinners, Crishan Kalugamage, Ben Manenti, and JJ Smuts, dominated, taking 6 wickets for 49 runs in 12 overs. Nepal's chances were high, given their previous performance against England, but Italy's bowling was too strong. Italy chased down Nepal's target of 124 with ease, thanks to the explosive batting of the Mosca brothers, Anthony and Justin. Anthony hit a towering six off his second ball, setting the tone for Italy's aggressive approach. Justin reached 50 off 37 balls, while Anthony achieved the milestone in just 28 balls with a blazing slog-sweep. Anthony finished on 62*, while Justin scored 60*, guiding Italy to a 10-wicket win. Having needed a few balls to get in, Justin Mosca took 14 off Karan KC's second over, then the brothers traded sixes off Lalit Rajbanshi's only over to raise Italy's 50 at the end of the fourth over. Even the early introduction of Nepal's trump card, legspinner Sandeep Lamichhane, could not slow the Moscas' advance, as Anthony cleared long-off and then dragged past short fine leg to leave Italy 68 for 0 at the end of the powerplay. The Mosca brothers, Anthony and Justin, made history by recording the highest partnership between siblings in T20 internationals, surpassing the 119-run stand by Scotland's Kathryn and Sarah Bryce. Their unbeaten 124-run opening partnership helped Italy chase down Nepal's 123-run target with ease, securing a 10-wicket win. This victory marked Italy's first-ever T20 World Cup win, with Harry Manenti leading the team as captain in place of the injured Wayne Madsen. That triggered a disastrous collapse, from 93 for 3 to 102 for 8. Lokesh Bam hauled Ben Manenti to deep midwicket, Aarif Sheikh picked out deep backward square leg off Smuts and Kalugamage bagged a third when Gulsan Jha holed out to long-on. Some shoddy running did for Nandan Yadav. Karan KC nailed the returning Hasan for six and four to briefly re-energise the Nepali support in the stands, but two wickets in three balls at the start of the 19th saw them bowled out short of their allocation. Italy pulled off a stunning upset, defeating Nepal by 10 wickets in their T20 World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Mosca brothers, Anthony and Justin, led the charge with unbeaten half-centuries, scoring 62 and 60 runs respectively, and putting on an unbroken 124-run partnership. Italy's spinners, Crishan Kalugamage (3/18) and Ben Manenti (2/9), restricted Nepal to 123 runs, making it a cakewalk for the Azzurri.
