India Women get extended run in South Africa with three T20Is added

India Women's upcoming tour of South Africa later this year has been reshuffled and expanded to include three T20Is, in addition to three ODIs and a solitary Test match.

Preparation for Champions Trophy: The addition of the three T20Is over the festive period serves as key preparation for both sides ahead of the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka in February. Extended Tour Window: The revised itinerary extends India's stay in South Africa by an extra week. The tour now runs from December 9 to December 30.

Format-by-Format Breakdown:

Test Match (Dec 9–12): Played at Gqeberha, rescheduled to avoid clashing with the South Africa Men's Test against England.

3 ODIs (Dec 16–22): Played in Paarl (Boland Park), Cape Town, and Bloemfontein as part of the ICC Women's Championship cycle for 2029 ODI World Cup qualification.

3 T20Is (Dec 26, 29, 30): Newly added fixtures hosted in Benoni and Potchefstroom during the holiday period.

Growing Rivalry: Tensions and competition between both teams have surged following South Africa's 4-1 T20I series win over India earlier this year and their subsequent victory over India at the T20 World Cup in England.

"We are delighted to confirm the revised schedule for India's tour of South Africa, with the addition of the T20 International series over the festive period, ensuring our Proteas Women have the best possible preparation ahead of the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka early next year," Pholetsi Moseki, the CSA CEO, said in a statement. "India remain one of the strongest teams in world cricket, and the opportunity to compete against them across all three formats will provide invaluable competition as we continue building towards another major ICC event."

South Africa's teams have a packed home summer, which includes ten Tests (eight men's and two women's) and incoming tours from Australia men, Bangladesh men, England men, India women and Australia women. There is ongoing discussion that the dates of Australia women's series, currently scheduled between March 18 and April 14, could also be tweaked given the Champions Trophy dates and Australia's home summer. Details are yet to be confirmed.
