India Sets Up West Indies Showdown with Dominant Victory

India's big win has set up a thrilling knockout clash with West Indies! This match is now a virtual quarterfinal, with the winner securing a spot in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026. West Indies, led by power hitters like Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell, will be looking to continue their winning streak. Zimbabwe asked India to bat first expecting help for fast bowlers. Their reading of conditions was accurate, but the execution was much better from the much more experienced India bowlers, who kept them to 33 in five overs, post which there was hardly any way back. Zimbabwe's exit from the T20 World Cup is a tough pill to swallow, especially after Brian Bennett's incredible unbeaten 97 against India. This was Bennett's standout performance in the tournament, taking his tally to 277 runs in five matches at an average of 277.00. Zimbabwe's fielding, however, was a concern, dropping five catches in just two Super Eight matches, a stark contrast to their first-round performance. India made a tactical change by bringing in Sanju Samson, replacing Rinku Singh, to address their left-handed batting cluster issue, which was giving offspinners an advantage. Samson and Abhishek Sharma's opening partnership of 48 runs off 3.4 overs was India's biggest of the tournament. Samson hit sixes off Zimbabwe's fast bowlers, showcasing his aggressive start, but fell for 24 off 15 balls. Abhishek Sharma found his groove, and it showed! He played smart, using his feet and timing to score 33 off 13 in the powerplay. His maiden T20 World Cup fifty was a patient one, taking 26 balls, but it set the stage for India's strong start. Dropped catches hurt Zimbabwe Had Zimbabwe held on two pretty straightforward chances, Kishan would have been dismissed for 26 off 19 and Suryakumar for eight off four. The duo ended up with 38 off 24 and 33 off 13. The innings was set up beautifully for Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma to finish off. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma's explosive finish propelled India to a massive 256/4 against Zimbabwe! The duo added an unbeaten 84 off just 31 balls, with both hitting four sixes each. Hardik finished with an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls, while Tilak smashed 44* off 16 balls. Their partnership was a masterclass in power-hitting, with Tilak using his agility and Hardik unleashing brute force. Axar Patel, left out for the last match because of an abundance of left-hand batters, took two balls to get a wicket, that of the left-hand batter Tadiwanashe Marumani. Varun Chakravarthy took to 19 his streak of taking at least one wicket in a T20I with the wicket of Dion Myers. India 256 for 4 (Abhishek 55, Hardik 50) beat Zimbabwe 184 for 6 (Bennett 97*, Arshdeep 3-24) by 72 runs
