Ibrahim Zadran replaces Rashid Khan as Afghanistan's new T20I captain
While announcing their squads for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka on Thursday (March 5), the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced that opening batter Ibrahim Zadran has been appointed as the new T20I captain.
Following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, in which Afghanistan failed to advance to the Super Eights, ACB had been considering removing Rashid from his position as leader. The ACB has decided to replace Rashid with Zadran, who was the T20I vice-captain in the past, with just over a week remaining until the start of the Sri Lanka series.
Additionally, the personnel for the upcoming series has been altered by the board. Despite participating in the recent World Cup, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Gulbadin Naib, and Mohammad Ishaq have not been considered for both the ODI and T20I squads. The T20I squad includes top-order wicketkeeper Noor Rahman, left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Sharafuddin Ashraf, and left-arm fast bowler Fareed Ahmad, while Fareed Ahmad Malik makes a return to the ODI lineup.
Zia Ur Rahman Sharifi, who appeared in three of Afghanistan's four matches at the T20 World Cup, has been named to the ODI squad for the first time."
