Healy on Legacy: 'There's No Sadness' as Career Ends
Alyssa Healy is wrapping up her incredible cricket career with no regrets, saying she's "genuinely not sad" about retiring. The Australian captain is ending her 16-year international career after the upcoming series against India, citing a loss of competitive edge. Healy's got a ton of achievements, including two ODI World Cup wins and six T20 World Cup titles. She's proud of her journey, saying she's "really excited for life after cricket".
Healy's final game will be the one-off Test match against India at the WACA in Perth, starting March 6. She's looking forward to this last hurrah, saying it's a "really cool opportunity to retire at home and in a baggy green".
Alyssa Healy's journey is truly inspiring. She started her international career at just 19, playing against New Zealand in 2010, and now she's calling it a day. 16 years of dedication, hard work, and passion, and she's still got that spark in her eyes. "It was the one time when Healy allowed herself to reflect" says it all - she's been living in the moment, giving it her all, and now she's ready for the next chapter.
"I'm just really excited for what's going to be a cracking four days of cricket. Whatever happens will happen. I'm very aware that not everyone retires on their own terms. This is a really cool opportunity to retire at home and in a baggy green."
"I genuinely don't think there'll be any sadness. I'm just really excited for life after cricket, and I'm really grateful for the experience that I've had so far. We'll wait and see what unfolds next, which is more exciting than anything else."
Healy's farewell has gone to script so far after leading Australia to an ODI series whitewash over World Cup champions India which lifted them to an 8-4 lead on points and ensured they can't lose the multi-format series.
"I'm not going out there to make a duck," Healy grinned. "If three figures come up then so be it. At the end of the day, I just want to contribute to team success and what that looks like...we'll wait and see."
While Healy may not be choked up by the moment, undoubtedly those around her and fans at the ground will be wrapped up by the emotion of it all as one of Australian cricket's greatest careers comes to a close.
Healy's explosive batting will definitely be missed! That ODI finale knock of 158 off 98 balls was. And yeah, it's a shame she didn't get more Test opportunities to showcase her skills - just 10 matches is not enough for a player of her caliber. A Test ton would've been the icing on the cake for her glittering career.
Aww, Healy's got feels. Writing Lucy Hamilton's cap presentation speech really hit her, making her reflect on her own journey with the Australian team. She's been doing this for 16 years, and it's sinking in now that it's all coming to an end. She's realizing how lucky she's been, and it's a nice reminder of how special this all is.
