Harmanpreet Kaur stays off the field after picking up knee injury

Due to an injury, Harmanpreet Kaur was unable to participate in India's defense of their 214 against Australia in the first One-Day International on Tuesday at Brisbane's Allan Border Field. After India's innings, in which Harmanpreet scored a half-century, the BCCI issued a statement to the media stating that she had "sustaining an injury to her left knee while batting" and that the medical team was "monitoring her progress." India was led by vice captain Smriti Mandhana in Harmanpreet's absence. Although Harmanpreet did receive some on-field treatment at the end of India's 38th over, when she was on 40 from 67 balls, it was unclear when she sustained the injury. After putting together a 53-run stand in 61 balls with Kashvee Gautam, who scored 43 in 44 balls before becoming the final batter out, she continued until the 44th over, when she was run out for 53 off 84 balls. In spite of Mandhana's 58 off 68 balls from the top, India had fallen to 140 for 6 in the 34th over thanks largely to Harmanpreet's three fours in her innings. Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth, who both suffered quad injuries in the previous T20I and are now competing to be fit for the one-off Test match that will be played after the ODIs, are Australia's two key players for the entire ODI series, which they lost 2-1. Megan Schutt, who was not in the original ODI squad, made her way into the team and took 2 for 42 from her nine overs to keep India to a low total.
