Hardik Pandya's MI Aims to End Title Drought with Win Over KKR

Mumbai Indians are looking to break their first-game jinx when they face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium today. MI has lost their opening game for 13 consecutive seasons and 14 of their 18 season openers overall. Hardik Pandya-led MI boasts a strong squad, featuring Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah, making them favorites to win. MI's Strengths: Batting Lineup: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak VarmaBowling Attack: Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Deepak ChaharAll-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Naman Dhir, and Sherfane Rutherford KKR, on the other hand, faces challenges with injuries to key players like Mustafizur Rahman, Harshit Rana, and Akash Deep. Their spin duo, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, will be crucial in containing MI's batting lineup. KKR had rebuilt their pace-bowling department, signing Mustafizur Rahman, Matheesha Pathirana and Akash Deep but come the first game, none of them is available. They had to release Mustafizur on the BCCI's instruction, Akash Deep is out of the tournament with a back injury, and Pathirana is recovering from a calf strain. Harshit Rana has also been ruled out because of his knee injury. Their replacements are not as mouthwatering. KKR faces a tough challenge against MI at the Wankhede, but they've got some stats working in their favor. MI's first-match curse is real – they haven't won an opening game since 2012! KKR can draw confidence from this, plus their recent win against MI at the same venue in 2024.However, MI's overall record at home is strong, and they've won 7 of their last 8 matches at the Wankhede. KKR will need to be sharp to pull off an upset. MI are without Will Jacks and Mitchell Santner for this game; both are yet to join the side. But in Sherfane Rutherford and AM Ghazanfar, they have solid back-ups. Jasprit Bumrah, who was at the CoE in Bengaluru to work on strength and conditioning, has joined the side and will be available for Sunday's game.
