Fakhar, Farhan Lead Pakistan to Victory, But Semifinal Dreams Dashed

Pakistan's hopes of reaching the semifinals were dashed despite a thrilling win, thanks to Fakhar Zaman's unbeaten 126 and Farhan Akram's 3/25. They defeated an in-form Scotland side by 7 wickets, but New Zealand's win over England meant Pakistan missed out on the semis. Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan put on a show, adding a whopping 176 runs in 15.5 overs, the highest partnership in T20 World Cup history! This record-breaking partnership propelled Pakistan to a formidable total of 212/8, keeping their semifinal hopes alive. Farhan and Fakhar showed positive intent right from the start. Facing his second ball, Fakhar stepped out and slogged Dilshan Madushanka through midwicket for four. From the other end, Farhan steered Dushmantha Chameera through cover-point before launching Madushanka for a four and a six in the third over. The pair took Pakistan to 64 for 0 at the end of the powerplay. Farhan's hundred was his second of the tournament. No one else has made more than one in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. En route, he also broke Virat Kohli's record for the most runs in a T20 World Cup. Kohli had scored 319 in 2014; Farhan finished on 383. Dasun Shanaka's aggressive batting almost pulled off a miraculous win for Sri Lanka, but it wasn't meant to be. He smashed 76 off 31 balls, including 2 fours and 8 sixes, taking Sri Lanka to 207/6 in the 20 overs. Despite needing 28 off the last over, Shanaka's incredible start against Shaheen Afridi - 4, 6, 6, 6 - brought it down to 6 off 2 balls. But Afridi's clever bowling and the umpire's tight call on the last ball sealed Pakistan's 5-run win, knocking them out of the semis. Pakistan's innings took a nosedive after that explosive start 😅. From looking set for 220+, they managed just 35 runs in the last 4 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. This collapse limited their total to 212/8, making their target more challenging - they needed to bowl Sri Lanka out for 147 or less. To qualify, Pakistan needed to win by about 65 runs, and with this strong start, they were well in the game. The changes to the team, including Naseem Shah's return, seemed to pay off, giving Pakistan the firepower they needed. Pakistan 212 for 8 (Farhan 100, Fakhar 84, Madushanka 3-33) beat Sri Lanka 207 for 6 (Shanaka 76*, Rathnayake 58, Abrar 3-23) by five runs
