Double Injury Blow for Australia: Nathan Ellis and Joel Davies Ruled Out of Final South Africa ODI

Australia have suffered a double injury blow ahead of the third and final ODI against South Africa in Potchefstroom, with fast bowler Nathan Ellis and all-rounder Joel Davies ruled out of the series finale.

Nathan Ellis suffered a left side strain after bowling just four overs during Sunday's 32-run defeat in Johannesburg.

Joel Davies, who was traveling as a backup slow-bowling option for Adam Zampa, strained his right hamstring while fielding as a substitute during the same match.

Sent Home for Rehabilitation: Both players have been ruled out and sent back to Australia to undergo recovery. Ellis aims to return in time for Australia's white-ball series against England in November, while Davies will rehabilitate ahead of the domestic season with New South Wales.

Mounting Injury Concerns: The duo adds to a growing casualty list on Australia's African tour, which already includes Billy Stanlake (side strain) and Josh Inglis (broken finger). Furthermore, all-rounder Jack Edwards—who claimed a maiden five-wicket haul in Johannesburg—is also being monitored for a hamstring issue.

Impact on 3rd ODI: Down 2-0 in the series, a depleted Australian side is expected to call upon senior Test fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc to bolster the playing XI for the final match on September 30.

Riley Meredith and Will Sutherland have been added to the Australia A one-day squad for three matches that start next Tuesday. The duo replace Jack Edwards and Aaron Hardie. Edwards is in South Africa having flown in as cover for Cameron Green and has played the first two ODIs of the series. Hardie has been ruled out of the series with a minor knee issue.
