Dickson Dents Somerset as Glamorgan Prevail on Floodlight-Hit Night

Glamorgan beat Somerset by 4 wickets with 2 balls to spare, chasing 203/6. Sean Dickson, facing his former county, made 50 off 33 balls to anchor Glamorgan’s chase.

The hosts posted 202 for 6 after losing the toss, skipper Lewis Gregory top-scoring with 54 off 28 balls, sharing a fifth-wicket stand of 90 with Tom Abell (41). Dan Douthwaite was the most successful Glamorgan bowler with 2 for 35 from four overs.

Play was interrupted twice when the floodlights failed at Taunton. Umpires consulted captains and play resumed with one light still off. The second blackout came in the last over with Glamorgan needing 16 off 6. After the restart, Daniel Douthwaite hit a six, then got out, leaving James Neesham to hit the winning boundary.

Somerset openers Tom Banton and Josh Thomas put together a half-century opening stand in under five overs before Banton, who had smacked five fours and two sixes in his 39, was caught at deep square off former team-mate Ned Leonard.

Leonard went on to concede 50 from three overs. But Glamorgan fought back, Thomas caught for 18 off Ben Kellaway with the total on 60 at the end of the powerplay. Soon it was 83 for 4 as Jordan Hermann was run out by Kiran Carlson responding to a poor call by Abell and Thomas Rew was bowled by Douthwaite for 2.

Somerset posted 202/6, built around Tom Abell and Tom Banton. Glamorgan slipped to 55/3 in the powerplay after early wickets from Josh Shaw and Craig Overton. Dickson, dropped on 14 by Jake Ball, cashed in with sixes off Shaw, Goldsworthy, and Sams to reach his 50.He fell for 50 off Sams in the 15th over with Glamorgan 144/4. Asa Tribe 26 kept them in it, but Glamorgan needed 16 off the last over. Douthwaite’s six and Neesham’s boundary finished it.

Dickson spent 9 years at Somerset before joining Glamorgan. He was dropped early but made them pay, clearing the ropes against his old teammates. Glamorgan completed a double over the defending champions Somerset in the Blast this season.
