Cameron Green to play as pure batter for short period after minor back complaint

There has been a lot of speculation about Cameron Green's role in the Kolkata Knight Riders' first IPL 2026 game, but Cricket Australia has clarified that he won't be bowling for 10 to 12 days. Green featured at No.3 for KKR, scoring 18 off 10 in their six-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (March 29). However, he was not among the six bowling options employed by Ajinkya Rahane, as Mumbai Indians chased down 221 with five balls to spare. When asked about Green's availability as a bowler after the game, Rahane responded, "Ask Cricket Australia." Green will not bowl for a short time as he recovers from a "minor back complaint," CA has now confirmed. By the end of 2024, the 26-year-old had already had a significant back operation. "Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days' time," a CA spokesperson said. "KKR has been informed and is fully aware of this information," the statement reads. Any rumors about his current position are put to rest now that KKR knows, especially since he paid INR 25.20 crore, the most money ever paid for an overseas player at an auction. Green did not bowl in his most recent Sheffield Shield appearance, which came a few weeks ago, but he did roll his arm over at the T20 World Cup, but not often. At the IPL this year, Australian players have received more attention, particularly in terms of their workload and injury management. Josh Hazlewood has linked up with Royal Challengers Bengaluru but wasn't match-fit for the opener. Mitchell Starc made it clear in a public statement that he is recuperating from injuries to his shoulder and elbow, making him unavailable for the beginning of the competition. Pat Cummins, too, is currently sitting out due to a lumbar stress issue. Nathan Ellis and Jack Edwards have been ruled out of the competition due to injuries.
