Cameron Green's Fitness Concerns Leave Australia Scrambling Ahead of Gqeberha Clash

The Injury & Status: All-rounder Cameron Green remains in significant doubt for the second Test against South Africa after picking up an abdominal strain during the third ODI. While he has traveled to Gqeberha and begun light training/net sessions, team management has noted he faces a tight race against time.

No Bowling Role: Team management has already confirmed that even if Green proves his fitness to play, he will not bowl in the match due to a separate shoulder workload management plan, meaning he would feature strictly as a specialist or utility batter.

Selection and Squad Adjustments: Assistant coach Matthew Wade hinted that Green's return might realistically target the later stages of the series, keeping selectors cautious. Meanwhile, Australia has been boosted by the fitness recovery of wicketkeeper Josh Inglis from a finger fracture, giving the selectors alternative options to juggle their batting order.

Beau Webster's position at No. 7 could be under some scrutiny but given Australia won the first Test so convincingly, it would appear unlikely they would make changes, provided all the quick bowlers pull up from their workloads. Webster bowled on the centre-wicket net on Thursday alongside Boland and Neser.

Currently, there is some rain forecast for the first two days of the second Test, which gets underway on October 18.
