Brydon Carse cleared of charges over Derby nightclub incident

After Derbyshire Police dropped its investigation into an alleged assault that occurred last month, England fast bowler Brydon Carse will not be charged.

After officers were dispatched to Molly Malones in Wardwick, Derby, in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, footage of Carse in handcuffs emerged on social media. He had been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. He was released from custody after that.

After the 31-year-old seamer was removed from England's Test squad for the remainder of their series against Pakistan, Derbyshire Police confirmed that it was investigating assault allegations. After that, Carse was left out of the T20I and ODI teams for the current series against Sri Lanka.

After inquiries, it was determined that the alleged victim did not wish to file a complaint, so nothing further was done.

"An investigation into reports of an assault in Derby city center has been closed," read a statement from the police released on Friday.

"In the wee hours of Sunday, August 23, officers attended Molly Malones in the Wardwick, Derby.

"A man was detained after his information was taken by officers on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly."

Carse will now be the subject of an investigation by the Cricket Regulator following the conclusion of the police investigation.

Before the second Test at Lord's, Test captain Joe Root said he was "hacked off" about the situation. Brendon McCullum, limited-overs coach, said last week that Carse needed to "get his house in order." This came after the ECB said Carse needed to "work through the issues that led to the Derby incident and take time for a proper reset" when he wasn't selected.

Since the incident in Derby, Carse has been playing for Durham in the County Championship. However, he did not play in the county's match against Worcestershire in this round because he was "unwell." Additionally, he was not included in the team picture when Durham won the Division Two championship on Friday at Chester-le-Street.
