Brook wants England to keep top spot after Sri Lanka sweep

After reclaiming the T20I No. 1 ranking on Saturday afternoon by winning the third and final match of the series against Sri Lanka, Harry Brook has urged England to fight for it.

England moves above India to the top of the ICC rankings after securing a 3-0 score at Emirates Old Trafford with a victory by eight wickets. After defeating India 4-0 earlier this summer, the T20 world champions regained the title a few weeks later with a victory over Zimbabwe.

With Brook's appointment as captain of limited-overs cricket at the beginning of the summer, England's ascent began in earnest. Despite the fact that the team was in third place at the time, it has needed a run of 23 victories in 26 matches, including seven consecutive victories, to overtake India for the second time in as many months.

Brook stated, "I think we should be extremely proud to win another series, another whitewash series, and go back to world number one is an extremely good effort." He added, "I think we should be extremely proud." "Each individual in that changing room ought to be extremely proud of themselves.

"Especially in the field, I believe everything is running so smoothly. Since Australia and New Zealand will jointly host the 2028 T20 World Cup, the format will soon fall to the bottom of the agenda. Stephen Fleming, the new Test coach, was at Emirates Old Trafford with Brendon McCullum, the white-ball coach, on the final leg of the T20I series. The two have already talked about how all-format players can help them with their own needs.

Fleming's tenure begins with a three-match Test series against South Africa that coincides with the conclusion of an Australian limited-overs tour. Players at the extreme ends of the three formats will be managed accordingly for the Ashes World Cup and ODI World Cup next summer.

The T20I team and Brook himself, as vice-captain of the Test team, will feel that pull the most. After having conversations with the 27-year-old, selectors decided against resting him for this series.

Brook spoke of the need to continue being ruthless and use the No. 1 ranking as a badge of honor to keep motivation levels high in order to further establish his captaincy and continue this impressive T20I run.

"We chose our strongest side today because of this. You should never take that for granted, even if you can whitewash it.

"We obviously knew before the series that if we beat them 3-0, we could move up to number one. As a result, that was always on our minds.

"We need to maintain our motivation in order to try to hold onto that spot for as long as possible. We probably don't play as many Twenty20 matches as other countries do, especially India, which plays a lot of Twenty20s. Maintaining that may not be as simple as it sounds, but we will attempt to dominate opposition at every opportunity."
