Brendan Taylor has been ruled out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 because of a hamstring injury, which is a significant setback for Zimbabwe. Ben Curran has been approved by the ICC's Event Technical Committee to succeed Taylor. A Zimbabwe Cricket release stated, "Following a medical assessment, it was determined that he will not recover in time to take any further part in the competition." Taylor, the only player to play in both the inaugural and current T20 World Cups, suffered a right hamstring injury against Oman in Zimbabwe's opening match. After grabbing three balls, the 40-year-old was batting on 31 off 30 when he injured his hamstring and had to retire hurt. The veteran will not be participating in their campaign going forward, which is a setback for Zimbabwe. They had hoped it would be a minor issue. All-rounder Tony Munyonga was included in the Zimbabwe XI for their match against Australia in Taylor's absence. Curran, a top order batter who is 29 years old, has not yet played for Zimbabwe in the shortest format. He has scored two hundreds and three fifties in eight ODI matches and eight Test matches. The left-hander has scored 872 runs at a strike rate of 126.01 in T20 cricket, including seven fifties.
