Bowlers Shine as South Africa Take Series 3-2, Esterhuizen Leads the Charge
South Africa's bowlers, led by Esterhuizen, pulled off a thrilling 3-2 series win! Esterhuizen's impressive performance with the ball played a key role in the team's victory.
South Africa's batting turnaround was impressive, with Connor Esterhuizen emerging as a standout performer. He scored back-to-back fifties in matches four and five, anchoring their chase. The team's top-order partnerships clicked, with three of their four highest partnerships coming in the decider.
New Zealand were without their first choice top five and also had to do without Tom Latham, who was due to lead them but fractured his thumb in the third T20I. They were never really in the chase against a disciplined South African effort. None of their batters scored more than Bevan Jacobs' 36 and they only had one partnership which threatened: 52 between Jimmy Neesham and Jacobs for the fifth wicket.
What a catch! Nick Kelly's superman dive to dismiss Rubin Hermann was incredible. Hermann was looking good after a flying start, taking 14 runs off four balls from Ben Sears and showing strength against spin. But he got stuck and Kelly's brilliant catch ended his innings at 39.
Connor Esterhuizen's explosive knock! He smashed 75 off 33 balls, taking his series total to 200 runs – 100 more than the next best, Devon Conway. Esterhuizen's on-side dominance was on full display, hitting 5 sixes off Cole McConchie's bowling and taking 25 runs off the last two overs.
What a turnaround for Coetzee! After missing the T20 World Cup selection and recovering from injury, he's been on fire. Joint-leading wicket-taker with the lowest economy rate in the series, Coetzee's precision bowling was key. He didn't concede a boundary till the last ball, finishing with 2 for 21 in 4 overs.
South Africa 187 for 4 (Esterhuizen 75, Hermann 39, Sears 2-37) beat New Zealand 154 for 8 (Jacobs 26, Coetzee 2-21, Mulder 2-28, Baartman 2-33) by 33 runs
